| Kilimanjaro Routes Map |
The Umbwe Route is the least used on Mount Kilimanjaro mainly because it is the most difficult route with its steep and straight climb to the top and is significantly shorter than the other routes. Unfortunately this route gives climbers very little time to adjust to altitude change and thus has an extremely low rate of success.
Umbwe is ideal for those who are confident in their ability to trek over consistently steep slopes and experienced mountain climbers with no problems to adjust to altitude change. Umbwe is also for those who want a secluded and quite hike away from the crowds.
The route takes five days minimum to complete, but can be done in six or seven days.
